Instant Restaurant

So, big news people, I was lucky enough to be filmed for BBC2's new show Instant Restaurant last Friday! I had to create a pop-up restaurant for one night in my tiny terraced house and be followed by not one but two cameras, following the spills and thrills of trying to create a professional restaurant with my one oven and tiny hob. The good news is I did it, and it was a success!

After some hairy moments involving making ravioli in the living room two minutes before serving as all the pre-prepared pasta had stuck to the plate! As well as having a mini-breakdown five minutes before the guest arrived as I was still cooking on the dining table and had no flower arrangements. But as if by magic as they walked in, an air of calm came across us and we had the best fun!

Be sure to catch me on BBC2 in January! And check out all my recipes from the show over the next few posts!

Hi you two,
I was also filmed for this show a fw sundays ago against an Instant Restaurant in Devon. What a day !! before the recording my wife said, "never enter anything like this again or I'll divorce you", I think she meant it. We got really stressy in the build up to the day. And what a day 10:00 till 2300hrs with hardly any sleep the night before. My wife, who was a helper, thoroughly enjoyed the day and said that she thoroughly enjoyed the day and would definately do it again. I thought it was a great experience but am not sure if the nerves would cope with another day like this.

Hi you two,

our filming was in the North West. My husband said something similar and so he was appointed 'emergency shopper' and I had other helpers. We did an 18 hour day but enjoyed it in an odd sort of way. I have to say that the crew were great to have around just hope they the editing doesnt end up making embarrassing viewing!!

Glad to hear from other people who have suffered the mad stress of the day! I don't think I have fully recovered from it! I too am pretty nervous about the final edit, after filming for over 12 hours they edit down to 20mins - could be awful...

Any idea when its on? I heard February some time?

Hi - me too! I'm in London and our filming day was at the end of October. I was in touch with RDF yesterday who said that they are 'in talks' with the BBC and should have a broadcast date by the end of this week. I shouldn't hold your breath though, the BBC are not known for their ability to act fast The last time I had a meaningful conversation with the production company I was told that the plan was to broadcast in February/March. We're also very nervous about the editing.

We were also filmed for an episode, which we are now told is airing at 17:15 on the 15th Feb, so looks to be first in the series. Scary stuff! I hope I don't come off too badly in the edit!

And other one !!!! - mine is 26th feb.
Phew what a day - I am scared to see how they edit - but wasn't Nadia lovely at the follow up filming?
OMG - didn't the cameras really mess with your planned timings - with the "just say that again" "can you point to that" and "could you hold this for a close up !!!!" I had to take an hour out of my schedule to show them how to pick things off trees !!!!

But wow - how good was that 1st Gin afterwards with the left over choc puddings..... Gin an Adrenalin - I wonder if it will catch on as it is the best !

Good luck to every one in the coming weeks and I hope none of it is to cringeworthy !
x
